The Northern Rivers Golf Day was hosted at Teven Valley Golf Course, home to Golf Course Superintendent Paul Gumbleton on Friday 16 August 2019.
There was a great turn out with 64 members and guests in attendance, 13 clubs represented as well as trade representatives and GCSAQ Life Member, Barry Cox.
Prior to tee off, Kustom Bind Bunker System company directors did a demonstration of the application of their permeable polymer treated gravel layer into a bunker and a infiltration test on the gravel layer and the sand. This was fantastic to watch and generated huge interest from attendees.
Thanks to Marcel and Trent from Ventrac for supplying and cooking a BBQ lunch. Beverages flowed throughout the day thanks to Lawn Turf Solutions.
There was 12 club teams that contested the Northern Rivers Supers Cup playing a 4 man Ambrose. The win was taken by Ballina Golf Club and the team was led by Superintendent Brent Robinson. Numerous prizes were donated by our generous sponsors.
The course looked great and the redevelopment is well underway with 4 holes expected to be completed before Christmas as per the new Craig Parry design. The course is all being constructed in house by Paul and his small 3 man team. We were able to play three of these new holes which have been planted with Sir Grange Zoysia on the fairways, tees and surrounds. The greens are Tif Eagle, so it will present some unique playing surfaces in the region and beyond, particularly with the selection of the Sir Grange.
A huge thank you to both Paul and his wife Nikki for hosting us and organising everything onsite for the day to run smoothly.  The association is looking forward to revisiting the club as Teven Valley Golf Course unfolds through the next phase of construction.
